Our Lady of Juquila

Sunday, December 8, is the Feast of Our Lady of Juquila, with a special Mass in her honor at 1:00 pm. 

In the heart of Oaxaca, Mexico, nestled among lush mountains and vibrant valleys, lies the small town of Juquila. This village, known for its breathtaking landscapes and warm-hearted people, is home to a remarkable story about faith and devotion.

Many years ago, in the early 18th century, a humble farmer named Miguel lived on the outskirts of Juquila. One day, while tending to his fields, he stumbled upon a small, intricately carved wooden statue of a woman holding the Child Jesus. The statue, weathered by time, radiated a serene beauty that captivated Miguel's heart.

Feeling a profound sense of reverence, Miguel took the statue home. That night, he dreamed of the woman in the statue, who revealed herself to be the Virgin Mary. She spoke to him, saying, “I am here to bring peace and healing to your people. Share my presence with them.”

Upon awakening, Miguel felt compelled to share his discovery with the villagers. He gathered them in the local chapel and showed them the statue. As word spread, people began to flock to Juquila to see the miraculous image of Our Lady. Many reported experiencing healings and miracles after praying before her.

As devotion grew, so did the community’s faith. They built a small shrine to honor Our Lady of Juquila, and every year, on December 8, a festival took place, celebrating her love and protection. Pilgrims from all over Mexico traveled to Juquila, bringing offerings and prayers to the beloved Virgin.
